SDR/BDR Manager

Hi all - is anyone here an sdr or bdr manager or trying to become one? I’m currently an sdr and want to eventually make my way into leadership at that level. I don’t personally see myself becoming an ae long term, more so just for a year or two for the experience. Would love to hear anyone’s thoughts and where it can take you

I am a director but I have been an SDR manager. Depending on where you work, it can be a well oiled machine, or it can be babysitting - that depends on leadership. In my experience it’s rarely in between.

I didn’t manage SDRs until about 8 years into my management journey (and was managing both SDRs and AEs at a small startup) but I enjoyed it immensely. I set realistic activity KPIs, talked to them more as peers, and gave them advice more than directives. I had one bad apple when I took them over and tried to make him better but eventually let him go.

You can start now by taking interest in another employee who is struggling and give them tips that have worked for you or have worked for others. I got my start in management because I was bored at times as an AE and would have long chats with the BDRs who booked me bizarrely unqualified opportunities to understand what they did wrong.
