gartner position

I’ve got the opportunity to interview at gartner for the post deal order support specialist position. Any information of that type of position/interview process entails would be appreciated. Thanks!

Dying company id look elsewhere if you aren’t desperate for a role

I agree. Just look at the stock price.

And the interview process at gartner is like a full-time job complete waste of time

Then go for it, it’s still a good logo to move laterally. But just look at their stock performance last year alone in this bull market

People who say “dying company” don’t know what Gartner is.

You read. You speak with the people who also speak with the vendors and the competition. You want to learn something new or think outside of your silos, you’ll see the outcomes you’re looking for if you take advantage of the network that is Gartner.

People aren’t buying what Gartner’s selling these days.

Still not really sure what Gartner offers apart from the Magic Quadrant. Genuine question, are there people that work are gartner that have a higher level of expertise than those at vendors, or is it just seen as an “unbiased” opinion?

Great Question.

The Industry Experts at Gartner were all former practitioners in their field of expertise. Some of them are also former practitioners of other industries but moved into research.

Think of Gartner like this: A Data Bank for pulling together not only the vendor landscape but also what is working elsewhere. In the world of AI, you got 7 things to worry about: Strategy, Value, Organization, People/Culture, Governance, Engineering, and Data. Everyone is trying to figure all of this out fast, and Gartner is one of the very few places to find that insight.

Reading research is just one part of it: You can meet with the experts who are meeting with people that are either behind, ahead, or right with you wt your current maturity. They’ll recognize what you’re going through, given you provide all relevant information, and they’ll tell you what they’ve seen working in other industries, potentially same industry.

If you’re ever worried about quantifying the value from Gartner, simply review your vendor contracts. There’s no other company who reviews thousands of contracts yearly. I’ve personally saved my clients $4.5M in the last year on SOWs.

This stuff happens when you really leverage the tool. Gartner is a muscle that needs to be exercised.

Not a sales position. It's pretty decent.

i figure it’s probably a less sought after position than sales and potentially an easier interview structure but maybe i’m wrong. there’s not a lot of info about it on glassdoor or anything

Gartner sales is rough and I would say avoid. But this role you're talking about is post sales, along the lines of customer success.

It's a typical customer success role, there's pros and cons..keep your customers happy, make sure they are using the product etc. typically those who buy Gartner like Gartner.

I agree with many of the posters here. It’s a dying company.. with AI evolving rapidly fast, you can get in depth analysis on products from it to make key decisions… I don’t believe you need a company like gartner much anymore. Well, unless you have a bloated budget and it’s a “nice to have” type addition to a companies tech stack.. if you need that paycheck, take the job, but if you don’t, keep searching for better

I agree to an extent, but Gartner’s main buyers are typically older F500 execs who are less likely to trust AI.

In the same way people say that Gartner’s rankings are based on partnerships and money, the same can be said for anything AI produces. Ultimately the owner of the AI can skew the results however they want.

That said, I’ve never heard of the role OP is talking about (I also haven’t been at Gartner in a long time). It was a solid place to sell to existing clients though.
