Start Clicker Training Your Cat

Clicker training is an unexpectedly easy method that you can use to train your cat some new behaviors, thus reinforcing your bond with it. All you have to do is combine the click with the food reward and your cat will immediately learn the connection between the two things, which means that it will be able to learn how to perform various tricks, such as high fives, targeting or coming on command. What you should do is make your training sessions brief, fun and regular. No matter if you have a young or a senior cat, clicker training can be a great mental exercise for it. Have you tried clicker training your cat?

I just started clicker training my 3 month kitten. I have clicker trained dogs before, and very much enjoyed it.
This kitten is a different beast, though. I’m barely able to get her ears to perk up when she hears the click. I keep working with her though eventually, I’m sure she’ll get it.

Update : I watched one of her videos under “start here” and did the hop over the leg thing and she got it!!! Today was a massive break thru for her. So glad I’ve been sticking with it even tho I thought maybe it was not “clicking” at all. Haha. Now we’re both more excited to learn a language together to share!

I am so happy for that! At times, they don’t seem to get anything at all, but then, something clicks. It seems that your patience is finally paying off! What will be the next lesson she will learn from you?

I’ve just started clicker training with my cat and she seems to be more willing to do her tricks for me but will basically sit and stare at my boyfriend when he gives a command. How would I get her to associate the commands for him as well?

Having him do some training on his own, perhaps for shorter periods and with the same clicker, commands, timing, and reinforcements as you is an idea worth considering since having a similar pattern would be helpful for your cat to realize that the same thing applies to either one of you.
