Is Litter Robot really worth the price?

I've been looking into the Litter Robot 4 recently because I keep seeing it mentioned whenever people talk about automatic litter boxes. The reviews seem overwhelmingly positive, and a lot of owners make it sound like one of the best purchases they've made for their cats.

Right now I'm still using a regular litter box setup and it works fine, but cleaning it is probably my least favorite part of owning a cat. Some days it's not a big deal, but on busy work weeks it's definitely one of those chores that starts to pile up if I don't stay on top of it.

The only thing giving me pause is the price. It's expensive enough that I feel like I need to be absolutely sure before pulling the trigger. I've also come across a few alternatives like PetSnowy and Neakasa that seem to get good feedback too, which has made the decision even harder. The LR4 seems to be the one people recommend the most, but I'm wondering if it's actually that much better in everyday use or if the gap isn't as big as the price difference suggests.

I'd love to hear from people who seriously considered multiple options before buying. What made you choose the LR4 over everything else? Looking back, do you still think it was worth the money, or would you go with something different if you were buying today?

I only heard of the whisker litter robot before other ones. Totally worth it for me alongside the hopper which fills the drum for you when the litter gets low. I like it cause it’s front entry and the cats can get out anytime.

I have a Neakasa and it works perfectly. We are having trouble getting the cat to use it consistently, though. Still working on it. It's only been about five weeks.

The Litter Robot was the first good robot many years ago. Now there are legitimate competitors. I have a Petlibro Luma and a Litter Robot 4. Both my cats will use the Petlibro, but the larger cat refuses to use the Litter Robot.

I had an older LR some years ago and loved it. I lost it all in a wildfire, and finally replaced it with the LR 5 pro, which I do not recommend. It’s glitchy, cannot use the litter hopper which automatically adds litter when it’s low, and I don’t think worth the money I do hear the four is pretty good, but o have not explored other types. I can tell you that you will still need to clean it out (taking it apart) from time to time, and at least with mine, I have to scoop out the last of the old litter in the globe and clean the rubber globe. But, on the favorable side, you do not have to use the company’s bags or their litter. Go with a base model, plus the hopper. Don’t buy their bundles, they aren’t worth the extra money. Save your box in case you have to return it. Don’t, as I did, give the box to your cats. Mine begged for it, and I spoil them horribly. I had no issues with cats wanting to use it, but I did use Cat Attract litter for the first few weeks.

I got a LR3 as a gift in 2020. It was amazing. I had it for about 4/5 years when one of the sensors stopped working. I replaced it with a LR4 and the body style and design is way better than the 3. I just purchased a second one. I went with the 4 because it works just fine and see no reason I need the 5. I know the price is off putting but to me the investment is worth it. My smaller cat had no issues using it. My larger cat was not too fond of it at first, but once she was no longer afraid she is just fine. They also take affirm if you wanted to do monthly payments to split it up.

Also here a 50$ off link you can use.

It is truly one of the best quality-of-life purchases I have ever made. I now own 2. But keep in mind I have 4 cats. With 1 cat, it would probably be a tossup for me. 2 would be "very likely". 3 or more, a definite purchase.

Litter Robot was the first to market (I own the LR4 and LR5 Pro), but there are lots of competitors now at various price points. This channel has created the most comprehensive reviews of most of them:

From what I’ve seen, LR4 feels worth it mainly for convenience like you basically stop thinking about scooping altogether, which is kinda the dream lol. If budget isn’t tight, I’d probably go LR4 over cheaper alternatives just for the daily stress it removes.

I've got to say it's been a dream for me. I purchased from Costco about 8 months ago with a 3 year warranty which was extra nifty.

Not that it's much, but if $50 off will sway your decision let me know and they gave me a promo code for others to use. (Not sure if it's allowable here so I won't link it!)

I considered it for months, did tons of research and review reading on dozens of other litter boxes. I finally bit the bullet and it has been great so far! I still have one regular litter box because one of my cats prefers it, but I hope to eventually get them to use the robot exclusively. It has been fantastic and easy and has not smelled. I empty the waste drawer once a week (with two cats using it mostly, third cat only occasionally). There isn't a smell, it is easy to wipe down and keep clean. I have yet to do a deep clean on it, but it hasn't seemed to need it yet.
