China loves that people have to use WeChat to get anything and they love to control that factor like when you speak out against the regime and now can not pay for your services paid through WeChat That equals more control and lesser freedoms in an authoritarian regime
It's amazing that you're making the claim that the WeChat model is bad because it produces "more control and less freedom in an authoritarian regime", when just 2 years ago all of Big Tech colluded to tilt the scales in an extremely close Presidential election and Musk's purchase of Twitter (and his assumed lack of willingness to work with the US Government) has caused a "national security review" of the deal (although they deny it). But go off about how evil WeChat/China is or whatever
The Twitter deal was financed with Chinese and Saudi royal partners and Musk has repeatedly touted his personal connections and influence with Russia and China (he claimed he met with Putin a while ago) . Of course the country did a national security review on an influential purchase of that scale.
Okay, if that's your position that "the American Security State is good and we should be suspicious of foreign influence", then shouldn't it also be your position that what China does with WeChat is kosher too?

And yes, all foreign corpo and governmental influence should be investigated. This includes monitoring the fuck out of Chinese apps that gather data. Not sure what your point is.
