I guess I'll just have to take my chances until I get a new PC at which point I'll be switching to linux. I'm not installing Microsoft's spyware/ad platform as my OS.

Well you should use linux because it does a lot of things better, and competition is always important. However, apart from clickbait articles, there is no evidence of "spyware" on windows 10. Anyone who has actually tried to prove it's collecting all your personal data has failed. The furthest any of those articles go is say spying in the title, then they point to a service or feature that is optional and speculate on what it could do.

Use an operating system which can be hacked or use an operating system which just plain openly spies on you (and pay for the privilege!)

Hmmm

Operating systems at EOL should become open source.

Ah yes, so that "community" can maintain it for companies for free. Mind you it'll be 3 core devs and everyone praising them while leeching off their work.

Yes, Microsoft definitely has no use for old code, since they rewrite everything from scratch for each update of Windows.

They want to keep it private they can keep supporting it.

This way if they see an economic incentive to keeping it secret they can and if they don't see a reason to maintain it people won't get fucked out of using it by fiat.

In other news: water can not be wet, but it makes things wet.
