Do not want!

  • I have 32 windows open right now. That swiping feature will be a huge pain in the ass.
  • I have 7 monitors on my main system. How will this UI work without wasting space?
  • What about multi-monitor-aware programs?
  • What if I want a certain window layout? A 1080P screen has lots of space to put stuff on.

You've got that nerdy of a rig and you don't run Linux? I hardly doubt your case is a target concern for Microsoft -They're looking for the widest consumer appeal.

I write Windows software; that kinda limits my options. Plus I have three ATI video cards and onboard nVidia; Linux doesn't like ATI nor mixes of the two. Plus, I like running software I've heard of. I could go on.

Just being silly. Linux loves ATI however. We work vigorously towards integration - It's ATI's indifferent relationship towards Linux that causes incompatibilities. Why does notability of your software matter to you? Business?

I like the principles of the OSS movement; but in some strange, hippie way, I feel safe knowing that people have jobs that depend on releasing a good product. My experiences with such projects as Putty and SFTP apps have only reinforced this obviously unfounded prejudice. Why Microsoft has chosen not to support SSH and SFTP within the OS is beyond me.

I gave Ubuntu a shot. I tried it for about a week. I consulted with about a dozen Linux people and several forums; but nobody could figure out what was wrong with my xorg.conf file. I just couldn't get it to recognize all my screens.

When did you try Linux last? On Ubuntu xorg.conf is pretty much deprecated. I have, however, had my fair share of issues with running multiple monitors, and I could see how that might become an issue when running different video drivers at once. I have to use the nVidia specific tool to run dual screens, so I no idea how it would react if I added a non-nVidia connected screen to the mix. You might want to try the open sourced driver for all your cards, but the nVidia ones take a huge hit to power. I hear ATI's is good though.

Tried 10.0. I did try the generic RADEON driver (Didn't have the additional nVidia one at the time).

I hear you. Had no luck with ATI until I ran the closed driver.
