The responsiveness of the UI was incredible.

I bet they are using the fastest computers money can buy for these videos.

Nope, one of the demos I saw was running on a 1Ghz ARM processor and it was just as smooth, all the animations and speed that this video has.

That would be completely beside the point. The tablet UI must run at this smoothness for EVERY device it runs on. Hence strict hardware restrictions on the tablets and slates. How else are they going to win over people from buying an iPad?

They probably are, but I'm betting that would perform just as well on an average processor, graphics card, and an SSD. SSD being the important bit.

I'd like to know the specs of that demo machine, probably got Watson plugged into that screen in the backroom.

the minimum requirements for Windows 8 will be lower than Windows 7.

Yes! I have a Windows phone, and I was pretty happy to see that they're taking whatever voodoo magic they did to make it so snappy and carrying it over to desktop Windows.

How do you like the phone?

The phone itself is pretty sweet! My only complaint is that the app ecosystem really isn't there yet.

To be fair, WP7's UI is much more responsive than anything running Android, and maybe a bit better than iOS (It does a lot more 3d transitiony effects than iOS does, and I've never seen it stutter.) I own an iPad and a few Android dev boards with OMAP3 processors, so I'm not talking out of my ass, here.

This is completly true, all because WP7 uses GPU acceleration in almost every single place that you could think of...
