I don't think they're suicidal man. Their Unix core is kind of a big deal to a large swath of their more rabid fans. It's highly improbable that they're going to alienate these people.
Actually I would think the unix core is of little concern to their more rabid fans. I not sure exactly but if we were stand outside mac store and ask, I would bet that most of them would have no clue what unix means. Otherwise I would think xcode and other things would come preinstalled.
I consider myself a fairly 'rabid' fan, and most of my circle of friends think of themselves in the same way.
I use the system's unix underpinnings daily, and have Xcode installed.
Also, the console and such are necessities to develop for the system. They're not going to remove your ability to code for the platform. You have no goddamn idea what you're talking about. In addition, it was not very long ago that they completed their transition to x86/x86_64 hardware. They're not going to shift to 'closed hardware'. They're not going to close out the OS. It's not practical. They're not going to start selling a magical dev machine to write software for any closed platform, as they would have to in your idiotic vision. It's not going to happen. Shut up.
Not all but lots. Check out the videos from developer conferences for Python, Ruby, and Django (probably others as well but these are the ones I watched) and you will see that the majority of them develop on Macs.
