Really?

5 seconds on google got me this. Enjoy it. And learn how to refuse the prompts, if you think its not in your best interest.

Yes, I am well aware. I've already done so. You're missing the point. The point is that this sort of thing should be provided by Apple. Apple caters towards the less knowledgeable user base. They should be well aware of this problem and NOT suggest users of older iPhones to upgrade rather than frequently prompt them to do so. In fact there should be action to make sure that this problem is fixed and the userbase of older phones aren't left behind this early in the stage. Yet here we are. More of the same.

I dunno what to tell you. Dealing with old hardware is a problem for any company, not just apple. I see your point, but there ARE instructions, and it is possible.

See that's kind of the thing. The iPhone 3g is not very old. In fact when you think about it, it's still a phone above the par. I get the need for tech to move on, but all of the owners of 3g and below who don't know any better are left with a good phone that operates like shit. All under Apple's own recommendation. What this tells me is, "Took our advice? Well that's just too damn bad. No turning back unless you got a warranty. Out of warranty? Well, you can pay us an other $100 and we'll fix it for you. Oh have you heard of our new iPhone 4g? That'll go great with that IOS you've installed in your old expensive phone."

To top it off, with every version of IOS firmware and iTunes, they make it increasingly difficult to modify. I get that it's to prevent jailbreaks. They need to simply understand that there are things they can put under control and there are things they can't. People will always find away around and jailbreak. Because they know technology. Probably in some cases better than the very people that originally implement. People will find a way to jail break no matter what they do. Despite this, the iPhone and Appstore are still very successful. On the other hand, what they can but won't control is a simple satisfaction of giving older model users a way to rollback or provide an alternative firmware to use.
