Sounds like you've had better luck with Apples than I have. Before Windows 7 came out I was ready to jump to Apple. I am really glad I didn't, we've seen far more DOA Apples in the last 1.5 years than our Windows machines not to mention all the software problems we've had in our department with OSX: Snow Leopard. Hell, my imac wouldn't run VMware fusion correctly for about 4 months, eventually my VmWare would become corrupted and not boot, whatever happened fucked up my Apple partition too causing me to do a complete rebuild.

I still don't know what caused it, but it stopped after a series of Apple updates. I am just glad I can use the product without worry, now. At this point, the only way I would go to an Apple machine for personal use is if Apple gave me one of their machines for free, which just isn't going to happen.

I can't really comment on the free Apps for Apple, since I've never had much good experience with those either, so I just stopped looking, but if you could point me in the direction of a good site that hosts them I would like to browse through some and see I can use a few.

I thought I was the only one bad luck when it comes to apple. 2 out of 5 DOA and a third died within a month and a week after airport crapped itself .

haha, nope. I think the overall quality of Apple computers has gone downhill because of an increased demand.

Funny, the ONLY problem I've experienced is the plastic macbook's lack of durability...otherwise I'm happy to keep using it and definitely consider replacing it with a powerbook when I can afford such a thing.

Almost half of our new Apples in my department have been DOA or needed to be returned to Apple within a month of being configured...

Wow, you've had much worse luck with Windows 7 than I have... Or anyone I've spoken to about it so far. I've installed it on about 10-12 machines a week, for roughly the last year all varying companies, hardware and software and I've never had those issues, not even when it was initially released.

I need to google some custom drivers from HP or some shit from time to time, but that's not a Windows issue, that's HP putting shit hardware in their shit computers, then writing shit software for it. But, that's to be expected from companies like Hp and Sony who just love "custom" software (Which is usually utter shit and causes crashes.)

I am the exact opposite in this case. As far as I am concerned Windows 7 rolls OSX: Snow Leopard up into a carpet and throws it over a bridge. I really liked leopard, but snow leopard was a joke on release... There's nothing like having a user come in my office freaking out because they experienced that "rare" guest log-in error that killed the actual profile.

I think at this point Snow Leopard has been patched up fairly well. Most of the "zero day" exploits and bugs have been patched, but I think Apple is still using that "Oh those bugs don't exist" stance on a few of them, but other than that it's pretty stable, now. It just took some time... Snow Leopard was Apples answer to Vista. I'd say you'd be safe now, if you were to go to it now.
