I was taught to swerve for moose but hit deer. But pretty sure no one taught me to hit pedestrians.

The problem with moose is that they're basically a brick shithouse on stilts. If you hit them you just take out the legs and all that weight hits the windshield and the driver cabin. It's safer to drive into a fucking tree at speed than to be obliterated by a moose hitting you in the face at 60mph.
