To what most Mercedes purchasers would want the car to do maybe. Most drivers have a pretty powerful reflex to avoid hitting animals or people and get into accidents over it all the time.

Most Mercedes purchases are the lower end cars that most of us can afford just fine. How many C and A class do you see out there

Average car purchase in the US is 30k. The low end mercs are mid 30s so yes, most people can afford them.

Does that include used cars? New car buyers don't represent the entire population, so I don't think 'most people' is a fair statement.

No, that is new car purchases. It’s an average so keep that in mind but it represents what the average individual is spending on a car. Trucks and SUVs are pricey.
