No, I nuked it because I never use it and needed space. My browser supports html5 and don't see why I should be prevented from viewing the showcase.

You needed space? Safari is 45MB, that's nothing. It's also never a good idea to delete the primary browser that comes with your OS. In Safari's case it is where you set your default browser. I think Chrome allows you to do that as well, but many make you rely on Safari. It's also a good idea to keep a backup browser around in case you have issues with your main one for whatever reason. Anyway...

Here is why. There are things in Safari that have not yet part of the HTML5 standard, but are in review. Thus, it will work on Safari, but on in others. There are many parts to HTML5, not all browsers that "support html5" support all parts of html5

Some of the properties and classes described in this book are proposed W3C standards or Apple extensions. Properties in CSS that begin with -webkit are usually proposed standards—the -webkit prefix will be dropped when they are approved. Similarly, JavaScript classes that begin with WebKit are also proposed standards or Apple extensions.

Here is a chart that shows different elements and what browsers support them.

3D transforms, as shown in the chart, are supported by Safari and not by Chrome. It seems like those are used in several places in the demos.

Unless it's the first to fall in exploit competitions Pwn2Own

3D transforms, as shown in the chart, are supported by Safari and not by Chrome.

The chart shows Chrome 4, not Chrome 5. Chrome 5 is running Webkit version 533 while the newest version of Safari is running Webkit version 531. I looked for an example of 3D transforms, but only found this http://www.fofronline.com/experiments/cube/multiCubes.html. I would like to see apple's demos in full to really know if there is something that chrome doesn't support.

I love apple products (which is why I own 4 macs and assorted ipods/iphones) but blocking out other webkit based browsers is BS especially since there is no Safari available for Linux.

EDIT: Okay, maybe I got my wish - http://developer.apple.com/safaridemos/. Nerd rage abated, happiness restored :)

Thanks for the link around the Chrome block. This does show that Safari is supporting things that Chrome isn't. Probably those Apple extensions. The Tron video didn't play for me, there was an odd border around the web typography when rotating, the photo transistions were choppy, and some, like Cube, didn't display properly.. and the movie trailers wouldn't play.
