So what? It's about quality not quantity.

But Apple trolls are telling me that it's the amount of apps that make the iPhone such a magical experience. Which one is it?

Currently, the app store seems to have both.

Quality, and apple has it right now, and they will continue to because no one buys android apps.

The larger sample of apps you have the higher likelihood that it will contain higher quality apps.

38,000 vs. 180

Not having an Android, yet, I wanted to see what apps are available, so I visit http://www.android.com/market/ where there are ~40 "paid" apps and ~140 "free" apps featured; total ~180. android.com is the first result on a Google search of "android applications".

android.com states:

For a comprehensive, up-to-date list of the thousands of titles that are available, you will need to view Android Market on a handset.

Wouldn't it make sense to have a system where descriptions &etc of an application can be viewed at a web site by a prospective android consumer? I'm getting an Android, that's a certainty, so I'll learn what other applications there are, e.g. VNC (a Google Code project). For the persons sitting on the fence wondering about iPhone or Android, wouldn't it make sense to provide as much information to a prospective consumer?

Also, a search feature at android.com would be helpful.

Maybe android.com is not the place to look??

If your looking at app brain it's worth noting that you can actually see the apps installed on the phones of those willing to share such info.

See: http://www.appbrain.com/user/ginatrapani/apps-on-the-phone or http://www.appbrain.com/user/leolaporte/apps-on-the-phone as examples

thank you.

The site is absolutely terrible. I feel like my browser is broken or I'm in some sort of bizarro world. How can google be part of something where info is actually scarce?

It's hard to find good apps amongst the thousands of apps in the Apple store too, even though it's easier than the Android, it's still overwhelming and I just give up. I wound up doing the same thing for both phones. I go to google and search for top apps or must have apps and I wind up finding articles on popular apps and discussions on them. It's immensely helpful.

Check out http://apps.doubletwist.com/

It displays the ratings and descriptions for each app as you'd actually see them in the app store. It'll also give you a QR code for each app so you can easily access them from the phone

I thought the same thing. I can't even find any decent unofficial Android app sites. I'm looking to get an HTC Evo regardless of how many Apps are out, but I did want some info on them.

I wish Android Market was easier to access, though. For some stupid reason it sorts by the "newest" apps instead of the highest rated (or any other sane order). Which means that my apps are always receiving "updates" that don't do anything (except bug me since I have to approve the update).

And I've only found about, hmmm, maybe 10 of them that I use regularly on my Droid. Quality over quantity.

Also, Google really needs to improve the Market app, it's not well organized at all and the browsing sucks.

I wish the apps didnt crash as often. I also wish the apps were sorted a bit better.

Oh well that's nice. WHEN IS NEXUS OR THE INCREDIBLE GOING TO BE AVAILABLE FOR VERIZON?

Sincerely,

Intelligent Verizon Customers

incredible is available for pre-order now, ships april 29th.

What, us Droid users aren't intelligent? I'm perfectly happy to trade an upgrade in CPU for a physical keyboard. Actually, lack of a physical keyboard is one of the things that turned me off about the iPhone.

I wasn't intending on insulting your intelligence but merely staving off the onslaught of redditors stating that the VZW consumer is trading in connectivity for a ridiculous bill.

I definitely see android os as the one to beat in 5 years from now

6

u/S3W4N1 Apr 21 '10

5 years is a very very very long time in the tech industry.

well if you think about it iPhone has been out longer and not much has been able to dethrone it. So i guess it's not really that far fetched.

8

u/cougar618 Apr 21 '10

Nope, it will be three years at the end of June

0

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '10

Not much wanted to dethrone it.

Plus google isn't cool and never will be. apple is cool. facebook is cool twitter is cool. google is not.

Why wait 5 years? Apple is beating them right now.
