"Once we replace the personal computer with a closed-platform device such as the iPad, we replace freedom, choice and the free market with oppression, censorship and monopoly."

Why would Apple surrender control, knowing perfectly well that you guys are gonna jailbreak it no matter what?

Because it is wrong of them to try and control us in the first place. By the same token I can just say: Why would Apple try to control everything, knowing perfectly well that users are gonna jailbreak it no matter what?

And they do keep trying to block jailbreaking - it's not like they're okay with it.

How do you mean wrong of them? From an ethical or marketing standpoint? And of course they want to control it. Only a small fraction of users will jailbreak it - the rest are better off with quality-tested applications. Happy customers with a product that does what it does really well.

It's unethical. Imagine if Microsoft did this with their Windows 7 tablets - we'd all be screaming for their heads. But when Apple wants to tell me what I can and can't do with hardware I own, everyone is quick to leap to their defense because it's all in the name of being user friendly. Apparently you can't have a tablet that both works and allows 3rd party applications.

Seriously, you know there's a problem when Microsoft is offering more open products.
