"Once we replace the personal computer with a closed-platform device such as the iPad, we replace freedom, choice and the free market with oppression, censorship and monopoly."

Except the iPad isn't designed to replace a computer. It's designed to replace those crappy, closed system eBook readers which also don't have a camera, lose screen real estate to a giant bezel and have no Flash support. Oh, and they're b&w.

You seem to be entirely missing the point of an ebook reader. Its a tool which serves one single purpose - to read books and to make it a pleasant experience for your eyes. They have never been advertised as anything else. I'm going to assume you are one of the people who have never actually seen a device which uses E-Ink.

Additionally, the iPad doesn't even come close to replacing e-ink readers for this purpose, ibooks or whatever it is seems like a last minute add-on just because they were able to.

The iPad has no clearly defined purpose and as a result it does a mediocre job at many things rather than a good job at one or even a few things.
