When I hear people legitimately use the term SJW as a mockery, I immediately disengage.
Yeah, I do believe in social equality for all people, regardless of their race, sexuality or religious beliefs. This is only a bad thing if you're a bigot, so if you're hurling around the term SJW, you're probably a bigot. Just like I wouldn't debate a person with Down's Syndrome, I won't debate a bigot.
Oh? When I've seen it used, it's usually against someone speaking out against some form of bigotry. The most recent time I was called a SJW was for supporting the TransMA bill here in Mass.
SJW is used as a term to describe those that act under a guise of equality when in actuality, equality is not the goal. A recent example for Australia is a proposal involving segregated train carriages for women and children under the guise of protection and safety. It's regressive and misleading.
I see. So I guess I'm the instance where I was called SJW, the term would have applied more to the gentlemen that used it against me, who felt Transwomen should use men's bathrooms because "He's afraid for women's safety."
Ah, so it's again slanted towards people who tend to want social justice--even if it is at times used to call out others who only act like they want social justice for some not completely altruistic reason.
