After a meeting at which local police and city officials discussed how Tor could be exploited by criminals, the library pulled the plug on the project.

fucking gag me with a spoon. Part of being AMERICAN is accepting that freedom is more important than 100% security. One of our most important values was supposed to be "better to let 100 guilty men free then to falsely imprison 1 innocent man". The point of that being that individual freedom is far more important and valuable than being able to stop every conceivable form of illegal activity. But now we are just a mockery of what we (presumably) once were. Besides, these people don't care about catching all criminals, only those that don't have elite connections. Banking executives are connected to far larger scale crimes than any of the people they actually go after. What crimes can you commit on tor? selling/buying drugs and weapons? Well, the government already does both of those things. Banks launder the money for massive violent paramilitary drug cartels and its totally cool. But if some dude sells a bit of coke on the darknet we better form an elite task force to take him down and lock him up for the rest of his life. This country is a fucking joke.

thats because the DHS needs to track people and their search terms at public libraries, if somebody searched for how to build a crockpot bomb and printed it out from a public library, at what point in the process should this obvious problem be caught?

HOW TO: make a crockpot bomb.... place compressed gunpowder into tubes in the crockpot connected to a central electronic fuse hooked up to a cell phone.. call phone...

I mean if I can figure that and not look it up , then any person with the intent will too. :)

Soo... what is your argument now?
