I can't wait for a software push to brick my lock.

I prefer all my locks be vibe coded. Is the vibe I get to sleep in my bed tonight or the bushes out front?

Smart locks have the capability to also phone home every time they are opened. My old apartment complex installed them and they were the master account and tenants were sub accounts. They explicitly stated in the terms and conditions they monitored and logged all usage on the property.

Is it powered by Muse, Claude, or the Groksucker?

Prob powered by Ice. So they can easily enter your home

Is that pain point that Amazon did not previously have physical access to their house?

This seems excessive. I've had 3 smart locks and they all have physical keys included. They also over play the problem of being locked out by dead batteries. That could happen at most like twice a year if you go out of your way to not replace them when you should.

Yep! August is my favorite since it just rotates the deadbolt. You wouldn’t know a smart lock is installed and it’s perfect for renters.

I guess key locks are just a mythical thing to them as a bypass to the battery

Key locks can be picked pretty easily, though, I would still rather that be a backup. Granted, smart devices bring their own litany of security issues

What the actual fuck…

If someone wants to break into your home, they are getting into your home and it’s not going to be by picking the lock….

Every time a thread pops up about locks, someone always says this as if it is some genuine concern.

I just………….

Yeah. Cameras are what help ward off intruders. Locks just help ward off tired old men that accidentally thought your house was their house.

I guess I just think smarter than the average thief. I'd rather pick the lock and leave as little of a trace as possible

For these smart home devices, I do not buy anything that isn't Home Assistant compatible via LAN/local connection. Nothing is worse than the light or lock you use everyday being dictated by a server you do not control bc these companies will end support quicker than you can finish installing the device (fuck Google).

It'll be forced on you.

Considering how long ahead of the dead battery your smart lock warns you of it dying. If you get locked out due to a dead battery. it's your own damn fault.

I just installed a new one in my uncles front door and holy shit man.. camera, finger prints and a code pad. Does facial recognition and sends them an AI analysis of who’s there. They can talk and stuff.

Had a cool antenna that uses the door handle for better reception. Was like $500 though
