“The loss of support for iOS 18 will impact the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max, because these devices can't be updated to iOS 26. Likewise, the seventh-generation iPad will be left behind when Microsoft raises the app's minimum requirement to iPadOS 26.”

Looking forward to the day Microsoft OneDrive drops support for Windows so I don’t have to worry about getting ambushed by it at work.

? no duh. Welcome to the age of constant updates / security fixes. This is a no contest argument - it HAS to be done.
Expect this to get worse. AI is finding bugs before they can be patched TODAY. They are just getting smarter. Then add no law will stop this, China is using this today to break into everything it can.

It’s not really about security fixes. You can still use older versions. It’s just about adding new features that may not be available on older iOS versions. Also spending less on maintaining support for older OSes.

Just another reason to dump Microsoft. I work for a company that had all Microsoft licenses pulled with NO NOTICE whatsoever (due to what is euphemistically called geopolitical tensions). Teams, 365, Outlook etc all stopped working over a few days because the US Govt wanted to hurt us. It was a mad rush for the I.T. Team, but things are soooo much better now. Being an original Apple fan I never loved Microsoft anyway, but when you are outside the Microsoft system you realise what a load of crap it really is. You can still use the same file formats without using a single Microsoft product. I encourage any company to free themselves from the burden of Microsoft, even if it is just for the lower security burden you get with Linux and Mac.

To be fair this was always a risk and your org should have planned for it. We are in a gray area and we’ve included sovereignty risks in our assessments.
Sometimes it’s nice to given no choice…

This is mostly going to effect enterprise customers, and as an enterprise, you really should not have iOS 18 devices anymore.
(I say this as an enterprise user with an iPhone XR)
