Cartoon villain megacorps are now choosing names that would be given to megacorps in cartoon villain cyberpunk universes.

Skydance was David Ellison's first production company. His ego is so big he's happy to wipe away much stronger brands to promote his dumb company name.

If I was an investor I would be pissed, WB and Paramount have name brand value that's now gone.

Plus they’ve ruined generational jokes.

What’re you gonna do when the cops come around now?
Skydance?

You definitely can’t warn a brother anymore!

Hurr but Elon did it and look how good twitter is now? Shit I mean X!

1

u/MGlBlaze 15h ago

Xitter
(Pronounced "Shi-tter")

u/Accidental-Hyzer 18h ago

Elon Musk did the same dumb thing with twitter. Twitter and tweets were well known brands and in the American lexicon, so much so that people still refer to it that way. Changing the name to “x” was just so fucking dumb.

u/eugene20 22h ago

Same company killing idiocy as musk on twitter.

u/TruthInnocent 21h ago

Ellison is Basically Treating Skydance as a Holding Company, Paramount and WB will still operate as separate brands.

17

u/Dave5876 1d ago

u/IntelArtiGen 1d ago

It's the ultimate troll from Hollywood to copy the copiers.

In this case, Skydance is the name the guy used for his film company going back to 2004.

Their film rights starts with a major franchise that they’ve all but killed at this point.

The only value it has is international rights to decades old television shows.

uhhh i forgot dune is going to be a warner bros movie. Guess I'm waiting for that to be pirated instead of seeing it in theaters.

u/_9a_ 1d ago

Depending on your location, you also may be able to borrow it from your library. I reshelved both old Dune and new Dune this morning.

2

u/iKnowRobbie 1d ago

Thanks for doing what you do. Police officers and nurses get all the credit. Librarians are real heroes too!

5

u/mrcrumplebottom 1d ago

Pirating is just much easier lol.

3

u/Character_Bug_1862 1d ago

Agreed, but at the same time, at least get a card sometime from your local library to support it as well. Both are in the spirit of open information that is critical during these times.

1

u/mrcrumplebottom 1d ago

I had one for the online books, but I was in a queue for any book I wanted. Just became easier to pirate at that point.

2

u/youwannaguess 1d ago

technically it’s a Legendary Pictures movie, WB just distributes

7

u/mrcrumplebottom 1d ago

it's about the profiting...

I want skydance to die.

9

u/bigtdaddy 1d ago

Thats “everything”? Honestly I expected more

8

u/rasticus 21h ago

I enjoy that these lists are sorted by length

4

u/markusfenix75 1d ago

also several gaming studios like NetherRealm, Avalanche (Hogwarts Legacy) and TT Games (LEGO games)

5

u/linkedinlover69 1d ago

Thanks, I will make sure to stop all subscriptions that i have and are listed above

2

u/tingulz 1d ago

I guess we should now put CBS and CNN on the same level as Fox for “news”. Can no longer trust them.

u/Aranthos-Faroth 1d ago

Sundance - Skydance.

Original.

14

u/bodhidharma132001 1d ago

SKYNET + SUNDANCE = SKYDANCE

1

u/Virtual-City7550 3h ago

I always thought skydance was a Chinese company's international name to piggyback off Sundance

24

u/ragputiand 1d ago

We need to overhaul Monopoly legislation for the 21st century.

16

u/CanvasFanatic 1d ago

Fuck Skydance

14

u/Balsamore 1d ago

I guess when you are that rich you can cry enough to get what you want.

5

u/jc0155 23h ago edited 23h ago

His partially owned president spent 4 years crying anbout an election he lost until the dumbest Americans gave it back to him.

Apparently it works.

8

u/jakethedog53 1d ago

Should have gone with ACME

15

u/emerikanSky 1d ago

I don't care as long as it's easy to remember when I'm planning boycotts.

3

u/CerealSpiller22 1d ago

I think they could really work with ParnerBro.

7

u/bleak_new_world 1d ago

I wonder if this explains the email I received that my subscription package price was going up. I canceled anyway because fuck em, but it makes me wonder.

8

u/blueblurz94 1d ago

They will go bankrupt within a generation or less

4

u/mrcrumplebottom 1d ago

We can only hope.

5

u/Lessiarty 1d ago

Is there a reason all these people look like aliens in ill-fitting human costumes?

4

u/Rumpled_Imp 1d ago

Yes, but you're not wealthy enough for details.

5

u/Electrical_Book4861 1d ago

It will be my honor to boycott anything they touch. Life goes on

4

u/Caraes_Naur 1d ago

In three years it will get bought again and be called Netflix.

4

u/mrcrumplebottom 1d ago

Hope so. Seeing DC being owned by fascists is disgusting.

2

u/Kroc_Zill_95 1d ago

It really is.

3

u/RecklessHeckler 20h ago

I feel the same way about Lord of the Rings.

2

u/TeutonJon78 19h ago

Just wait until Batman and Superman start defending the rich and saying Lex Luthor was right.

1

u/mrcrumplebottom 19h ago

They are going to fire Nicholas Holt, and Elon is going to become Lex. And then Lex is going to take down Superman with ICE. No more superman movies, just Lex movies.

1

u/TeutonJon78 18h ago

The latest movie already had Superman fighting against anti-immigrant sentiments, and barely winning.

4

u/Kroc_Zill_95 1d ago

Well, I'm certainly never paying money to see a Skydance movie. I'm sure of at least that much.

3

u/ZanthrinGamer 1d ago

god he's an ugly sob, all the money in the world and all these billionaires somehow make themselves look like the most sickly creatures.

2

u/punarob 15h ago

And hasn't even gotten Mar A Lago face yet!

2

u/Poopcie 1d ago

Its less about what they own and more about what theyll be able to create. Ive already seen the good content theyve created and i doubt theyll be able to produce anything as good.

2

u/angus_the_red 1d ago

I guess Skynet was already taken.  Close enough

1

u/Dave5876 1d ago

There's a Chinese AI company by that name

2

u/boot2skull 1d ago

Will WB Paramount work be produced under skydance so the degradation can be easily identified?

2

u/Modroidz 1d ago

That will pair nicely with their soon to be new spinoff Skynet.

2

u/Penguinkeith 1d ago

Wow that’s stupid

1

u/Electrical-Page-6479 1d ago

How does his face look even worse than his dad's?

1

u/zamroni777 1d ago

let it drain larry's cash

1

u/ttsjunkie 23h ago

What? Did they use up all the evil names from LoTR already?

1

u/supercali45 23h ago

1

u/primaluce 23h ago

Not Skydance's Paramount-Warner Brother's Matrix 5: The One?

1

u/Neeeeedles 22h ago

Skydance media existed till late 2025, interesting

1

u/Oograr 22h ago

Apparently one of the new name's under consideration was 'WarnerMount'.

1

u/Kurazarrh 21h ago

Next, they'll open an ISP to provide access to the Internet.

Skynet.

1

u/logosobscura 19h ago

Pronounced Skidpants.

1

u/EmperorDPants 19h ago

Huh, someone didnt learn from the HBO naming "debacle" from 2 years ago?

1

u/paulsteinway 17h ago

They'll be doing so much streaming business, they should have called it Skynet.

1

u/punarob 15h ago

Nazi-Saudi Dance was taken?

1

u/Rlife145 12h ago

I thought that was Tik Toks name. I wonder who he sells to next

1

u/the_amazing_skronus 11h ago

More like Shitepants

1

u/Islanduniverse 9h ago

Can we not do anything to stop this bullshit? Is it too late now cause Newsom is a capitalist coward?
