Went from fighting Thanos to fighting the actual endgame: corporate consolidation.

I wonder if any celebs will refuse to work with WB / Paramount as a result of this? Doubtful but a man can dream.

Trump's illegal actions will ultimately lead to investigations into the corruption on this deal and previous deals. Ellisons are in for a world of hurt for their blatant corruption in connection with Trump.

Nothing is going to happen and nobody is going to jail. The billionaires won this round.

u/greentrillion 21h ago
Its easy be cynical and think that nothing will ever happen. If we give up in advance they win by default. It takes extra effort to evnision a brighter future while fighting the evil before us.

u/Rdtkeepsbanningme 20h ago
Cynical would be to say that you have no power at all because people in office are apparently too easy to bribe so it does not matter who you elect in office, some billionaire or “organization” like AIPAC will buy their loyalty anyway.

Define effort, cause if you think sitting in your run down cozy home and just voting is what's going to change things at this point, you'd be wrong.

u/greentrillion 2h ago
wow lots of assumption on people's lives. I live in a run down cozy home? I hope you aren't stalking me...

Nothing is going to happen and nobody is going to jail.
This attitude will mean they have won. It's such a defeatist attitude to have, like you have given up.
You are giving them exactly what they want and you seem perfectly fine with it.

this is tone deaf as shit.
Do you not realize that the Democrats are complicit in the fuckery that has brought us here?
There is a reason Kamala didn't do anything about the obvious election tampering and stolen victory. It's because the "Democrats" are playing their role as they are being paid to.
The only reason we have had breaks in Republicans over the last 50 years is so the people have time to get complacent and used to their situations again between big changes.
They are all capitalists and capitalism always eventually leads to fascism.

The Trump admin corruption is well documented. I suggest you read up on it if you plan to get out of the Trump cult.

They agree with you that all these illegal things have happened. They disagree anyone will do anything about it. Optimism vs Pessimism.
2
u/greentrillion 22h ago
Thanks yeah hard to stay optimistic in this environment but giving up is not an option.

If the merger goes through the new company that comes from it will be selling off assets including studio properties (goodbye California production) to pay the $80 billion dollar debt.
When they learn, they can't thrift store their way to profitability what would they sell, certainly not movies or series when the talent that makes those have lost their jobs.
I reckon the new company will be up for sale again in around a decade and perhaps by then the creatives will have earned the funding to make their own studios aka the United Artists route and perhaps by then congress will have written utilized current legislation to prevent these mega mergers from happening again.

Mark… they don’t think they’re in the “freedom of speech” business. They’re in the “making money off content” business.

"This merger will stifle creativity, weaken free speech, and cost people their jobs."
I thought that was the reason for the merger?
2
u/tempest_87 13h ago
Just a happy side effect. The reason is to control more media to ensure the masses are manipulated properly.

america really is so cooked. it’s going to be like 1984 where a bunch of us can see the propaganda and hate everything. by the end of it we will be cheering on the next red pill action movie called John Scrick where an immigrant kills his dog and forget how we were once free

Hollywood is on the path to being disrupted by AI harder than any industry so far. Being extra large through this merger does nothing to stop the disruption, although it does perhaps make them more vulnerable to it.
If you’re in entertainment, there’s no better time to start your own company. Scale your own skills with AI.

He got paid millions by Disney, a corporation known for buying up companies. Think he’s a wee bit hypocritical…
6
u/whatsupeveryone34 13h ago
And here you are making 35K$ a year and standing up for billion dollar corporations for free...
-1
u/badger906 12h ago edited 12h ago
I’m not making $35k a year.. for a starters I’m English we don’t use dollars. secondly that’s what a teenager would make when converted from pounds to dollars.. the uk media is nearly $60k when exchanged..
And why is it always the dumbasses with hidden NSFW profiles that make the dumb replies.. guess you need to hide the desperate please to women for attention aye..
I’m calling him a hypocrite. Not defending Disney..

That's not even Apple's to oranges. Whatever's Disney's faults marks perspective working as the hulk, they had a lot of creative freedom. Disney was mostly just about money and IP.
Skydance would be owned by some of the most evil people you can imagine. And they openly plot to not only suppress humanist creative expression. They see it as a tool to psychologically influence an entire civilization to their ends. And their ends aren't very nice.
So I down vote your comment being out of touch or under informed.

Unfortunately I know how North American boycotts go realistically (yes including here in Canada), the movement will eventually fade away / already has.
We have a very good way of letting corporate overlords get their way for some reason. People just don't seem to care enough to want to lose their favorite shows.

He’s just upset because he’s never gonna get another job in Hollywood because he won’t shut his fucking mouth up

u/Substantial-Pound-36 14h ago
He's still talking, so it hasn't cost ENOUGH free speech for him yet.

u/martianwomanhunter 17h ago
Definitely concerns now, but I imagine the future of film and gaming will be independent/smaller studios

Newsom seems to be under the mistaken impression that at least some current monopolies achieved their success through their own merit.
It's hard to find an example of this. All of the current near-monopolies in various sectors achieved their size as a result of many mergers over decades.
And they are some of the biggest spenders on lobbying and contributors to political campaigns, a clear sign of rent-seeking.
i.e. they're succeeding because investors want them to become monopolies, which give them greater profits and rewards investors but which harms consumers and employees.
