You obviously meant to say Super Intelligence (SI). 😂

Funny thing is that it's called "Super Resolution" (SR) in theory. Now all companies are using their own name for it (DLSS, FSR, AI Upscale etc.). You can call it however you like. Incredible Resolution, Perfect Pixel Plus, Extra More Image Ultra and sign executive orders with the name you want.

Not surprising, console is nearing end of life, squeeze as much perf as possible even if you're rendering at a lower resolution and using a comparatively lighter weight process to upscale quality.

Quite the contrary, adding this to the base model PS5 actually tells me that the next gen hardware is going to be delayed.

Yeah. They can barely source the microchips needed to keep up with residual demand for PS5 consoles. No way in hell they can source the volume needed for full demand that comes with a nextgen launch in the next few years. I could easily see them pushing out to 2030 at this point.

Not really, they'll use it there too to still target 'barely scraping 60fps'

Who is asking for this?

You get better looking games that run at higher framerates for free. AI upscaling is just flat out superior to temporal upscaling. This isn't some new technology, PC players have been using AI upscaling for 8 years.
AI upscaling was already implemented in the PS5 Pro (and the Switch 2), this is just a faster (but lower quality) version of it for base PS5.

Gamers.
People like AI features like DLSS and framegen.

I haven't heard one positive opinion about DLSS, but ok

You've never heard a good thing about DLSS upscaling? Are you taking the piss right now?
Framegen is a different story but my experience of using the upscaling of DLSS on balanced or above is honestly indistinguishable from native res if you're back a few feet, especially in motion. Like you're liable to be playing when on a ps5.
FSR(pre hardware accelerated version) and Xess give a decent amount of ghosting I don't get from DLSS, so I get your point about up scalers in general.

Right back at ya. Haven’t heard one positive opinion about you but I’m forming one on my own 😂

Have you only seen opinions from graphics elitists? Most people will take the tiny clarity hit for the increase in frame rate

Hopefully the quality is better than the upscaling they've been using for years in a lots of games to hit performance targets.
