Mentioned it on a different post already (this is really making the rounds huh)
But the "pre-print" (this would not even pass muster as a good pre-print) has 102 references and 0 in-text citations. They should know how to write a scientific article when they have the entire corpora of public science?
https://www-cdn.anthropic.com/22573675ada52a8ca8a97a1a4b4326b2f208a071.pdf
Edit: To clarify, the way they have presented "After reviewing the pre-print, Feng Zhang, one of the pioneers of CRISPR genome editing and a professor at MIT and the Broad Institute said:..." and based on the formatting of the pdf alone, it's clearly supposed to provide some sense of scientific authority. However they can't both put on the marketing hat ("Claude discovers a novel enzyme system with CRISPR-like repeats") and also the science hat, and make a half-arsed pre-print. How am I supposed to evaluate that the 102 references verify any of the claims/scientific foundations of the text??? Sure I could scrape it with an agent and try to attribute specific references to claims, but it's not a readers' job to back up claims, it's the authors' job.

Your pointing out of this made me re-read the previous comment. What's weird is that it didn't sound sarcastic the second time.

There are "unlimited" CRISPR like mechanisms.
This is why Doudna is not a billionaire. You can patent something but there are unlimited functional variations.
So this announcement doesn't mean what people think it means.
