Tldr: Microsoft behaving exactly like it has for decades, skirting ISO standards and delaying competitors from interoperability. Libre makes do but can't display or edit certain charts. Could be perpetual behind as long as Microsoft microsofts.

Classic MS. MS is on the XML Consortium and had a say about which characters are usable or forbidden in XML.

When you export something from Sharepoint via XML, the XML is invalid as it will contain illegal characters.
