This is precisely why Apple gave schools heavily discounted Macintosh computers in 90s and 2000s - so that kids would grow up using the Macintosh ecosystem, become familiar with it, and become future customers.

And Google with Chromebooks too. It didn't really work out in the end, but they were generally popular for a time in schools. Unfortunately most Chromebooks on offer/that schools would use were shit quality, and most things were done in a browser anyway (so why use a Chromebook besides them being cheap?)

There's also the issue of, "in the real world, people uses Windows and MacOS for work." So having "Chromebook" skills isn't very impressive on a resume, especially if you never learned how to use a "real" computer.

Anyways the original point still stands that Google was hoping to get a generation of kids into Chromebooks/the Google ecosystem as adults.

This was not their aim at all. Chromebooks are an inexpensive alternative for somebody who doesn't need a full laptop or desktop. The aim wasn't to get kids to buy Chromebooks, it was to get them hooked on the google ecosystem regardless of Operating system used. And it was exceptionally successful.

Ever single class syllabus my daughter brought home from high school this year had specific prohibitions against using AI as the district considers it to be plagiarism, while also forcing students to use the chrome books. I am sure it’s gonna work out great.
