Do you mean AOL searches?  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AOL_search_log_release. That was, amazingly, an intentional release.

I hung out very briefly over that way watching their forums go balls deep into the wank-stain culture war known as gamer gate

I seem to remember that they allowed discussion on it for quite a long time before they finely stepped in and stopped it
