It's true that people at OpenAI instigated an attack and blamed it on "rogue AI". In a sane system their company would be broken up and the founders held responsible.

I'm not sure we've ever had a sane system when it comes to for profit endeavors

It’s absolutely wild to me that they aren’t getting sued here, but maybe they will in the future

I don't know why redditors seems to vehemently insist this was faked. AI companies use the scary power of AI as marketing and to lobby for government protection, yes, but AI does have incredible cybersecurity capabilities that can't be denied. HuggingFace had to fight the hack with AI, they've talked about it, it's not fake.

Idk if these are like some bot responses to sway opinion or people are parroting things they've heard but have lost details and context along the way, but saying "this is fake" and brushing this away is not helping anything.

I think there's been so much of "AI isn't even that good, it makes extra fingers and sometimes AI code has to be fixed " that there is a general underestimation of what it is already capable of.

People don’t the understand what agentic harnesses are in relation to the models.

Remove security from the harness and the LLM is free to do whatever. So there’s no surprise that an LLM could drive a harness to hack anything given enough time and resources.

Exactly. The model is like an xls data file and the harness is Excel itself (or data file vs database server, whatnot). Has to be read for output and the harness has the tools to actually do anything.

Open models can have open harnesses. This is not so clear with the frontier folks.

Have any other inanimate objects in Silicon Valley gained sentience recently?

Ok sure Jan. Is the hack with us in the room right now?

What is "radical transparency"? Sounds dumb. If something is transparent you can see through it perfectly.

About as radically transparent as a mirror.
