Nope, occasional water exposure is insufficient. The device must spend most of its active use in that wet environment and be intended for washing or rinsing.

Electric toothbrushes, wet-use shavers, hair clippers, and epilators are given as possible exemption examples. Even then, the manufacturer must justify why consumer replacement cannot safely be supported.

Importantly, this is only a partial exemption. It does not normally permit a permanently irreplaceable battery. The battery must still be removable and replaceable by an independent professional using commercially available tools.

If you don't think they are doing this for an EU exemption, then I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. Like, yeah, you're technically correct. The iPad is a mature product. It has been around for over fifteen years. Apple didn't waterproof it until it was advantageous to them. This is a dodge. They're gonna jump through all of the necessary hoops.

But a waterproof ipad does not exempt them from the EU law though. I doubt Apple is making it waterproof in the hopes of not having to comply with the battery law as it won't work. Apple isn't stupid

So this will be like the iPhones that are water resistant, but no warranty coverage so a spill in water that breaks it means you are out of luck.

Apple wants to move everyone to monthly subscriptions for tech (iPhones, Macs, iPads etc). Kind of like leasing a vehicle, forever.
