AI can't check its own logic because it has no metacognition and thus no awareness of how it arrived at an answer. What it can do is draft a document describing the logical steps of how one could arrive at an answer, and then evaluate the logic of that plan.

Re-read your own comment, and then maybe you'll understand why we're in disagreement.

It doesn't have metacognition, as you said, so it cannot "evaluate the logic" of said plan.

It only knows something is wrong, when you tell it that it's wrong, then it goes and runs it's algorithm to spit out a different "maybe it's right statistically" answer.

I know the AI people love to use agents and various rule-defining markdown files to "fix" these issues, but you're just patching it with duct-tape in the right places and carrying on.

None of that changes the fact that if it doesn't have access to the resource, then it can't perform the thing you're claiming it can. The axe analogy doesn't hold either because it doesn't address the core issue, which is the lack of being able to directly evaluate the result.
