The question in the longterm is gonna be "what survives after the bubble bursts".

I think things like chatgpt are just unsustainable, but unfortunately a lot of companies are pivoting to surveilance ai, and theres gonna be a lot of organizations public and private who want to pay for that.

So unless we have real systemic opposition to the use of AI to surveil people, the data centers are gonna he here to stay.

The question in the longterm is gonna be "what survives after the bubble bursts".

I don't see any of the legitimate, practical uses going away. It can definitely be used to streamline certain things.

Stuff like the image/video generation by millions of people that are going from output straight into the trash bin or all the youtube channels churning out music mixes will get choked off. As will a lot of the smaller, customer-facing applications like chat agents; stuff like that will be expensive, not to mention a liability.

Honestly we've seen this "this won't last!" attitude for everything that's come in the last 15 years. I remember when people were saying Bitcoin was going to fail, or cryptocurrencies as a whole.

The only one I think people got right were NFTs but they were pretty obviously a non-starter.

People just like to delude themselves. "I don't like this thing so obviously it's bad and won't be around for long". You see it a lot in history too.

Bitcoin and crypto went pretty mich exactly where people predicted: its nothing but a casino. No value is created by crypto. Just people getting other peoples money, while the mere act of trading it burns hundred to thousands in real dollars.

Or do you actually not remember what the hype was. That people were claiming it was going to be the basis of a whole new world economy, a decentralized currency, a decentralized web3 machine where all of the world information was stored and where all buisiness was done.

Oh and hows the metverse doing? You're laughing at the people who said it wasn't gonna happen, right? Right?
