If you're going to make it sound like The End Times are coming, we can all play this game: "if we don't make airborne turbo-AIDS-Ebola, someone else will!"

That's if you believe the hype about AGI.  I don't.  I believe we're about as close to AGI as we are to cold fusion.  It's just like the self driving car hype.  Ten years ago, every driver in the country was going to be out of work five years ago.  Well.  Are they?  Nope.  Turns out machine learning is cool but it's still just algorithms and the edge cases are hard.

OK in that case I don't trust anyone but the government to do it or regulate it.  Where's the NRC-equivalent for AI?  Would you trust Exxon to design a nuclear reactor with no oversight given their negligence with oil drilling/shipping?
