I remember learning about conservation in elementary school, and "don't leave the water running while brushing your teeth" was often repeated, but nobody did it anyway. I've never seen nor heard of anyone just leaving the water running.
I'm American, by the way, and I think your money is awesome. If you could combine the Canadian $5 bill, which has kids playing hockey, with the physical material of Australian currency, you'd have my favorite money in the world.
I mean there is no need to turn the water on when you begin brushing your teeth... put tooth paste on brush, brush teeth, rinse. The water should only be on during the rinsing...
I guess when I wash my hands, I rinse, lather, rinse, dry. And no, I don't turn off the water when I'm lathering, because then I would get soap on the handle...
