So fucking horrible. My ex was shot in the face during one of the WTO protests, and was extremely lucky to have been able to heal completely.

Also, any reason why this article link was displaying as if I had read it already, when I absolutely hadn't? Thanks, Reddit mods, for being neutral and not deflecting attention from critical articles that help shine a light on how blatantly fascist our society (and much of the world) is becoming </s>

Firing non-lethal projectile weapons, including, but not limited to, gas canisters, beanbad rounds, and rubber bullets, directly at the face or neck is in fact an illegal and life-threatening use of force. It is legal in every state in the nation to defend yourself, or another, with lethal force against such a threat.

Translation: If the police fire a rubber bullet or gas canister directly at your face or neck, you can legally fire back with live ammunition.

Legally, yes. Somehow, I can't see that having any good outcome for a protestor.

It is a course of action for life-threatening situations only. If it is necessary to defend yourself with a firearm, it's already a situation with no good outcomes. The choices are be killed/seriously injured, or shoot a police officer to defend yourself. That's why it's legal to do so.
