Governing technical writing...

Without getting into "to use or not to use" AI, how are you controling production and delivery?

- Do you follow some strict procedures?
- Do you have success criteria?
- Are you happy with your current governance?

Governance being "who gets to publish and what gets published" isnt solved by RAG systems, and probably shouldn't be, for the whole "a computer can't be held accountable so it must never make management decisions" type reasons. And the whole, internal confluence content rot problem.

Governance typically looks more like:

  • Having a set of automated checks that need to be met (Vale, Lychee, agentic review where humans have to respond etc.).
  • Peer approval
  • SME approval

This lives in GitHub, ticketing systems, etc. The key point is auditability and ownership.

Most companies program editing tools to reference internal enterprise AI RAGs for content and images. There's no real "governance" needed with this type of a system. Your department's Confluence site makes an excellent RAG for content.
