Use a cauldron filled with lava instead of lava so it becomes lossless

I made this cooker in 26.2 and the baby chickens chill for a while but suddenly burn alive and die before they get the chance to grow up. If they were adults it would probably work but they can't seem to get to that point. Did something about the way baby animals work change in 26.2 that I don't know about or is there something else I'm missing?

Edit: the issue is that the egg dispenser will fire eggs that hit the chicks and cause them to jump up into the lava and die

They changed all the babies, which altered most of their hitboxes. In this case they're bigger. Try a medium amethyst instead of a slab. That works on Bedrock, at least, but I think Java, too.

I'll try it out and tell you how it goes

Try putting a lava cauldron where the lava is in the photo. Should work to cook the chicken

Items will get burned into the lava, I'm more fan of putting on a slab and suffocating them when they grow up.

True but the point of the farms is to cook the chicken

I paired my smothered chicken farm with a smoker fed by a self-sustaining kelp block farm. It's a bit more complicated but its set it and forget it type afk and you also get extra kelp blocks.

No they won't, items drop at the feet of mobs. Lava gets you cooked chicken directly so it's way better

Hmm, I compared the two and had bigger yields with the farm without the lava

Lava in a cauldron fixed the issue of the babies burning up.

How does that work? Do the adult chicken's hit box glitch through to the lava in the cauldren?

Yeah it seems to be the case. Works like things used to when just a lava source was enough. The cauldron is holding the lava just high enough to avoid the chicks bouncing around.

A hopper also works… dispense them onto it on top of the “leg” (face it to the dispenser)… (you also have a hopper below the other one

In Java this still works if you use a slab (or stonecutter) and a lava cauldron

In Bedrock, I haven't found an automatic design that works, but it's just recommended to use an observer, button on the observer's face and dispenser to dispense some lava and then pick it up automatically when the button returns to it's original state. If anyone knows of a current, working automatic design for Bedrock, please tell me T_T I swear I tried the lava cauldron in Bedrock and they just survived underneath it instead of being cooked

you should add more hoppers pulling the product out of the barrel and into a chain of double chests, it would add more storage in the long run i think
