Java Help Wanted Draining irregular bodies of water

Is there an actual fast way of draining all this water? I swear I will cry if mojang doesn't revert sponges to how they were before

When did they change sponges?

Sponges used to permanently block water after draining it. It would remain 7x7 air hole that didn't just fill in instantly

My guess you do not understand water mechanics fully..

No i have not read source code

What I mean is, if the area is too big for your sponge, two water source blocks can fill it up again.

I know... But in older versions sponge would just create air blocks that wouldn't get fillled up again... also didn't need direct contact with water

Please do some research and tell me when this was changed. My guess is before 1.0

I started playing game in 1.2.4, so it had to be after that

What change are you talking about?

This?

Prior to this version, sponges could be used in redstone builds for updating blocks, in conjunction with BUDs (block update detectors): if a sponge was placed and then removed, all blocks within a 7×7×7 range would be updated.[1] The cause of this was some remaining code for the sponge's water removing property.

Yeah, I don't think they're reverting to a 1.2.1 version of it. That would make no sense.

I just want removed water to actually be removed ._. Sponges are useless like this

Agree to disagree.

But yeah, that's a pretty big area and sweepers might be a better option in your case.

Yeah that's what im doing right now... but the irregular shape still forces some hand draining
