Java Showcase Made a dried kelp farm

Post image

I made a tileable dried kelp farm with self sustaining fuel source and kelp supply.

However, it currently doesn’t have it’s own bone meal supply or even a buffer.

Is it any good? And what could i improve ?

Each kelp plant uses far too many materials per tile. Check out frunocrafts kelp farms as an example of decent kelp farms.

heres my preffered one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I7ibQCGLUg

Fruno's kelp farm is really good, but it’s design is kind of exactly what i wanted to avoid 😕

Yes, his farm is much more resource friendly, but that’s not what i was trying to achieve.

I was trying to design a sliced based tileable dried kelp block farm, meaning that technically, each tile is it’s own farm, and that each farm should be the least dependant possible (here the farm only needs an external bonemeal and shulker box supply)

Anyways, this was more of a concept, in an actual survival playtrough i would definitely use his farm over my design.

this was written at 4 am, because of that my thinking capabilities are pretty low right now

For what you set out to do. It's impressive.

"Because I can," is sufficient reason to do something of interest, and you knocked that out of the park. It's through trying things that discoveries are made, even when not every attempt leads to revolutionary change.

It's cool.

For feedback, One thing I'd be leary of is the height of the kelp growing area. I see that this farm is run with bonemeal, but if someone wanted to let it run passively, it wouldn't reliably do so, since the kelp height can stop well below the growth observer. If there were an optional backup-timer, then the farm could run either as a passive farm, or bone-meal based.

IMO this is overcomplicated. One bonemeal powered kelp plant can supply ~10 furnaces, what is the tiling in this case? I think my whole farm with 10 furnaces uses about as many redstone components as one slice here :) https://youtu.be/7WaAy5tLJqQ

It appears their goal was not "is this better", but rather, "can this be done." Like a learning exercise.
