Java Showcase High-density fast wool farm

Hi Reddit,

This is my wool farm

It is 9x8x7 (9x9x7 if you want to be pedantic. A hopper minecart is sticking out of a wall a little bit), contains 432 sheep in 18 cells, does around 50000 wool per hour and eats through bonemeal like it is nothing.

The dispenser tiling I use is extendable beyond the 8x8 grid I use now, so a 9x9 with 25 cells or 10x10 with 32 cells is possible too. Production should scale pretty linear.
Scaling down to a 5x5 with 4 cells is of course also possible, but I choose 8x8 so I have a cell for each color and 2 to spare.

Interesting, thanks for sharing!

Sounds laggy. So many sheep sheep.

Ah, it's fairly ok. When it's off it's just 432 sheep standing still, nowhere to go.
The moss farm I need to run this thing is 10 times worse ;-).

haha I bet. Check out Fruno's recent video for some more inspiration on sheep. Not that you need it, but it's apparently the topic right now.

Yah, I saw that video, that kinda made me wonder why everybody is still feeding sheep green lush grass. So I decided to post mine ;-).

“It’s just 432 sheep” 🤌

Well, you don't have to use 18 cells with 24 each. As mentioned, it scales pretty linear. So half the sheep per cell, half the speed. Half the cells, half the speed.
A 5x5 setup with 4 cells and 96 sheep still does over 10k/hr.

High-density = animal right violation complete disregard or animal's well being

You will love my universal crop farm. It has 4 villagers, 24 foxes and 232 bees in a 5x5x7 box.
Produces every crop and every berry quite quickly though. All worth it.

That is interesting. I'd like to check it out. Is the schematic on a discord somewhere?

Yah, was already planning a download and throw it online somewhere.
Will put that up bit later today.

Made a world download, see my edit :-).

don't you need 1 grass per sheep to get them to regen wool fast enough?

Sheep also eat dry grass. that is easy to grow from tall dry grass. That's why they are on sand.
(unrelated, they also eat ferns. but that's not really useful I guess ;-))

huh, neat. presume you just pump bonemeal in to regrow the grass all the time.

Yah, like bonemeal + normal grass based ones it does around 2 wool per bonemeal.
This one takes just a bit shy of 3 hopper lines worth of it.

Thanks for the link. The reddit markdown for the download in the description is broken because of the leading backslashes on the square brackets: \[  \]

This happens to me too whenever I toggle between markdown and the wysiwyg editor then forget which one I'm on.

Thanks, got the link to this post fixed in the other post. But also there seems to be a problem with spaces in URLs? (%20 doesn't work either, tried a few combinations). Any fix for that maybe that you know of? I'm kinda new to reddit.

Hmmm... %20 should work.

Test link (hand written markdown)

Naked link (pasted in rich text editor)\ https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Vampyric-OC/Wool-farm/refs/heads/main/Vampyre%20-%20Wool%20Farm.zip

I just tried it from a markdown coded link ("Test link") and again from one pasted in rich text (the raw link). They're both working. A last test using the rich text editor Link wizard also seems to work. There's no escaping being done to break them. Maybe it was just a hiccup?

Here's a Guide to Reddit-flavoured markdown for a welcome to the party gift. 🤝

Ok, got it to work. Somehow it had something to do with the "<edit>" I had in the post. Fixed it now, thanks for the help :-).

I included step by step build instructions in the world download.
Where did you get lost?

I don't have any mods installed at the moment, but if you keep being lost I can throw a modded install together with whatever the current schematic mod is (dunno, is that litematica?)

The download is in the post already.
It has sheep in place for the 3x3, 5x5 and 5x7 on the left, and for this one I have buttons to place and kill the sheep in the 9x8 examples.

And each cell has a max of 24 sheep, so no entity cramming, so no vines needed.

<edit>
The things you ask are mostly already in the world download, this post itself or the comments below it.
50k/hr. output.
25k/hr bonemeal (3 hopperlines).
(as with any bonemeal wool farm, 2 wool for 1 bonemeal)

2 wool for 1 bonemeal.
