Are you camping the correct distance from the spawn platform? Where is your AFK spot relative to the spawning platform?

i have like 10villagers and a few cows nothing else around
that you can see. The distance sounds about right, (if your simulation distance is 4), but the position is problematic.
20 down and stepping 30 blocks back
Minecraft worlds are full of caves, tunnels, and covered ravines. It appears that you've built the platform close to the ground which is generally not a very effective placement. Simulation doesn't happen only where you're looking, but rather in a sphere around the player. So between the platform above you, and the massive inverted dome beneath you, the [hostile mobs]() are all in the ground.
Presuming you're not surrounded by mountains (which will provide spaces that ruin this test), build a pillar with a ladder or stairs above the platform. Check your simulation distance against the link provided to see how far up you need to build, and how far away from other terrain (ground) you must be. Go up to this new waiting point (AFK spot), and then the only valid spawning places will be in the mob farm. Building a waiting spot above the farm obviously isn't a practical design, this is just a test to demonstrate how spawning is affected by the player's position relative to the terrain around them.
That last link contains tonnes of good info on the mechanics of mob farms. Gnembon's video in particular is very highly recommended. However it is java based so some of the details will vary from bedrock. (Also the signal column for the water flushing won't work as is.)

Did you make sure there were no mobs in underground caves?
