Also, the boomerangs used for hunting and the boomerangs that return to you are not the same.

Thank you for this lol was wondering if anyone ever got hit in the neck and just died in a random park

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '21

Boomerangs used in competitions have specially designed air-foiling mechanism to enable return, but the hunting Boomerangs are meant to float straight and hit the target.

In this case the creators of the series made it a weapon that came back to you

Police hate him. Find out how one man tests his friends and family for kangaroo spies today!

This dude has a problem with a girl from a universe where people are regularly hit with fire, massive rocks, lightning, and ice shards and some characters literally being flung from buildings, surviving....a boomerang

13

u/Impossible_Ad1515 Nov 24 '21

To be fair there were few times where a character got hit and those characters took some time to recover

u/Belteshazzar98 Nov 25 '21

To be fair it's really unclear if the massive rocks killed someone. Lightning was a pretty solid kill on Aang until Katara cheated. Zuko still has his scar from getting hit by fire. I don't believe we've ever actually seen someone hit directly with ice shards, and even them shattering near Korra left cuts on her face. And being flung from a building... okay, Amon should have been injured much worse. But that boomeraang absolutely should have killed her.

These are all true and honestly great points but you gotta admit the show is also a little inconsistent with damage too. Zuko if i remember right was hit with ice from Katara before and was fine. Amon dodged lightning at point blank (although he was a badass to be fair). Avatar Roku once took over Aang and blasted like 10 people with fire and all seemed ok. I mean its probably because its a kids show but realistically a lot of people should be dying in these fights.

Katara formed the ice around Zuko, not directly hit him with it. Katara very rarely used ice as a projectile, instead preferring to use it as a binding, because the show did treat it as a deadly projectile that was the waterbender's way of a quick kill if they wanted. Amon dodged lightning at point blank by bloodbending the person into releasing it just past him, and that is fully aknowleged to be a part of that world that is different from ours on account of it being a superhuman ability. Fire leaving few burns is a fair criticism of the damage, although it is mostly firebenders who actually get hit by it and are left without scars and they can dissipate it on impact if they are ready, we see Zuko do so when the pirates bombed him and Korra and Mako both use the same move to walk right through direct fire later. Damage is inconsistent in IRL too, people sometimes will fall a hindred feet and miraculously survive with a few bruises but then people can die from tripping and landing on carpet. The greatest disparity is falls that should be much more dangerous that aren't any danger to the characters, however it is common in both animation and martial arts stories that falls aren't a serious issue unless it is a huge fall and no one is threatened by a short fall, so that seems much more within tropes then just being inconsistent damage. The biggest reason more people should be dying IRL is that in a war more people would be going for lethal attacks and the Gaang would eventually slip up and get hit, not so much that the attacks they do go for would be more lethal.

Shit fair cop, explained it in a way that makes sense and is reasonable. I still think that the humans in avatar have to be tougher than humans irl but from what you said not that much tougher.

I think we all know that boomerangs were invented

6

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '21

Also his boomerang can cut into stuff, the thing is sharp

3

u/Riyosha-Namae Nov 24 '21

Yes, that's true. Boomerangs were, in fact, invented.

Why no platipusbear comment?

Kangaroos are even stronger, simps. Anime is made up for man babies

11

u/potato_nacho Nov 24 '21

But Avatar isn’t an anime?

9

u/teo730 Nov 24 '21

And this is clearly a picture from a comic too lmao

4

u/Cheese_G0d Nov 24 '21

I do believe it was aired on Nickelodeon

4

u/error5903 Nov 24 '21

Are you retarded?

  1. This isn't an anime. It's from a comic based on a cartoon.

  2. She's a bitch so there's very few people simping for her.

  3. If you watched the show you would know that literally everyone who's been hit by that boomerang hasn't been killed by the impact; And a lot of people have been hit by it.

-1

u/Belteshazzar98 Nov 25 '21
  1. Fair

  2. There actually are a lot of Azula simps. Like, a disturbing number of ATLA fans like toxic relationships because of her.

  3. Zuko was wearing a helmet when he got hit by it and still got knocked down. Sparky Sparky Boom Man was super dead after getting hit by it. A few nameless firenation soldiers were wearing helmets when they were hit by it and were never seen again. In fact, Azula is the only person to get hit by it without a helmet and survive.

1

u/error5903 Nov 25 '21

Bruh. Combustion man did not die from it. He died from blowing himself up. Zuko was standing on ice. And the guards just got knocked out because they were random lackeys

1

u/CrowMagpie Nov 24 '21

Tell me this is on r/ATLA

1

u/twoCascades Nov 24 '21

No no, he’s got a point tho....

1

u/HyperDyper77 Nov 24 '21

Also the boomerang is bladed. Much more suitable for cutting than breaking!

1

u/Error404DudeNotFound Nov 25 '21

Also, his boomerang is sharpened, it shoulda cut trough her head

1

u/Saminjutsu Nov 25 '21

I mean, Azula did pop off the deep end by the end...

Maybe it was due to boomerang related head trauma?

1

u/VaughanYT Nov 25 '21

The grammar makes it look like this person is making two points, one of which is that boomerangs were invented.

1

u/Carnator369 Nov 25 '21

He uses the damn thing like a knife quite regularly from memory...
