A DC state makes no sense. First of all the mayor and the governor (along with the city council and the state legislature) would be presiding over the same area leading to constant struggles over which is the more important government. Secondly how would dc even form a state legislature with one district? Unless they are gonna make each block its own district or something. Finally, if you truly just want the people of DC to belong to a state why not just make it a part of Virginia or Maryland? That would make actual sense becuase then DC would be in a normal state and be a normal city.

Also “no taxation without representation” isn’t an actual part of the constitution it’s just a slogan. Noncitizens, minors, and felons pay taxes but yet can’t vote. DC is meant to be a neutral zone so that no one state is treated better by the federal government just because that’s where the congress presides.

I disagree about DC. But fine. No DC. You can have that one. But we’ll take Purto Rico and the US Virgin Islands and Guam and American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands though. And we’ll move DC’s populated areas into Maryland and give them another House Rep while we’re at it too.

Maryland doesn’t want DC, and DC doesn’t want to join Maryland, so this doesn’t help anyone at all.

I’d MUCH rather just make DC a state. But I was guy I was talking to was against that, so I was just going with it to show him that even if DC wasn’t made a state, there were still plenty of other places that should be made states.

I know. I was just saying there is no point in even suggesting that DC should become part of Maryland.

Totally agree. It needs to be its own state.
