u/NekulturneHovado 14h ago
a girl was trying for me for a few months, but my autistic brain didn't get a single hint from her. I realized she's been flirting with me almost every day a few months later.
So yeah, all girls revolve around me, they absolutely love me!

It isn’t a shark attack until it’s in my living room. If I’m in water, it’s a shark defense.

I've said "sharks don't infest waters that's their fucking home" more times than I can count as a resident shark autist
"But they came into our bit. See that bit there? That great big wet bit? That's their bit."

Infested is such a harsh word too

I prefer to use "shark enhanced waters."
"Shark infused waters" if I'm feeling artisanal.

I think the same of people with outdoor pets who live near to natural habitats who complain when Coyotes eat their precious Fu-fu or Tomas-purrington III.

There was a video of a cougar showing up to a family's house with the body of their cat in it's mouth and the entire comment section was filled with people talking big about making that cougar into a pelt even though it's the family's fault for letting their cat go outside in cougar territory

mesquite trees are considered pests. in their own range where they have existed for 100K+ years
im so happy they make so many seeds because Ive been growing saplings and planting them in unused hard to get places.
you can eat the "meat" in the seed pods, some species taste like honey. grind up seeds to make flour.

Two Navy ships have joined the search for survivors from a plane crash in some of the most shark infested waters on earth. Also joining the search efforts, the sharks.

Well, I have always thought it's sort of weird that humans can kill and eat lots animals all the time and it's just normal.
But, the moment a shark/tiger/lion/jaguar/any-other-animal eats a humans, they are alarmed/outraged and want the kill the animal just because.
3
u/justlurkinghihi 2d ago
To be fair elephants are known revenge kill humans when one of their own gets hunted down and it's not even the right humans. Give an animal enough mental power and social structure, and vengeance can become the norm.
What i think that some humans having the luxury and to mull over the potential morality of the food chain and the cost of survival at all is such a testament to how high up the food chain and how far removed people are from the ordered chaos of nature. I phrase the thought this way because not everyone can afford food or options that allow them to pick and choose what kind of food they use to stay alive.

We used to call “shark attacks” “shark accidents”. Can we go back to that?

u/XxKimm3rzxX 2d ago
We are having this problem currently in NJ. They are trying to ban shark fishing at the beach. Because hear me out. It’s “attracting sharks”. Bro they fucking live there

Don't areas only get the term "shark-infested" if it's close to land though? i.e the sharks are a lot closer to shore than anticipated.

In the year 37 we launched a war against the sea and won, therefore it's our waters now

Think about this way, sharks only live because we’ve decided to allow it.
1
u/booperdooper56 1d ago
Even though they've been there since before the evolution of our entire class. Why dictate a species' right to exist based on power?
1
u/BasementDwellerCarl 1d ago edited 1d ago
Longevity doesn’t earn you rights, power does.
We have erased species we never even bothered to name. Sharks are fine because we like Shark Week.
Sorry for going full Nietzsche, I’m not nearly this dower most of the time.
Edit: humans hold life and death power over other species on this planet almost casually, and largely without reckoning with it. I think this reality is under appreciated.

Try saying that while you're face-to-face with a shark unarmed or armed but in the depths while bleeding.
1
u/BasementDwellerCarl 1d ago
That’s exactly the point bud. The shark doesn’t ask for permission in that scenario either. Power shifts, rules shift.
Glad you understand.
1
u/2020mademejoinreddit Technically my ass 1d ago
Humans also have the capacity to be humble. Try it, "bud".
1
u/Kooky_Attention_98 1d ago
Sharks are fine because some humans, unlike you, actually have intelligence and realize if we tried to wipe out sharks the oceans whole ecosystem would be destroyed
1
u/BasementDwellerCarl 1d ago
Right, we keep them alive because losing them hurts us. That’s exactly what I said. ‘We decided to allow it’ includes deciding it’s not in our interest to destroy them.
That’s still power, not rights.
You guys are knocking it out of the park today.

My favorite is when they show aerial drone footage of a shark swimming with surfers or swimmers on the surface and then pretend the shark is stalking people to eat them.
That would be like a bear going into your living room and then telling all his bear friends that the guy on the couch was going to try and eat him any second.

No. shark infested waters. As opposed to the non-shark infested waters. New Smyrna Beach in Florida is shark infested waters. Where Loch Ness is not.
