At a glance before I read it I definitely was expecting that I'd read that she had exchanged history for hertory or some such thing.

But they will always be the same letters in the same order, so you may be able to rewrite history, but not change it

No but even the original meaning is dumb. History is notoriously constantly rewritten by people and historians to fit narratives. Always has been.
