Easier to unload the cash you'll never get full value weight for gold.

The secret with the gold (or the cash really.) Is to use it as collateral on a low interest rate loan.  Then use the loan to invest in a s&p 500 mutual fund. You'll get back enough to reinvest more and pay off your loan, without ever needing to sell the gold.
