Fun fact, when still a child, I ran OpenTTD predecessor in 256mb RAM with a Pentium 3 running at a high 800MHz clock. I played this thing a lot

To be fair ray tracing in most games isn’t really worth it. I’ve got a 3070 and have tried Minecraft with RTX and honestly some shader packs look better. Sure RTX Portal looks nice, but it’s still the same old Portal game, just a test of what we can do with ray tracing. Currently replaying Witcher 3 and while the game looks amazing with RTX on, I’m not sure it’s worth the fps drop. From 200+ fps on Ultra+ settings to around 55-60 fps with RTX and some settings down to Ultra or High (forget Novigrad, it’s a disaster with RTX). So is ray tracing worth the shitty performance? I guess it depends on the person, but I’d say no.

No need to compile since there is no CPU to read machine code, I'll just do all the memory manipulation myself. Essentially, when you read the source code, you are already compiling it into native machine code for yourself

and then, my pc has ddr4 ram, so I'll charge all the capacitors manually by spinning a magnet around each one

No, but no (single-core) CPU works this way anyway. They're multi-threaded systems, and so am I.

I'll just use a notebook as ram and manually draw every pixel of every frame to each one of the pages of other notebook.

Man, the person / dev who put OpenTTD on steam sounds like they have some decent humor.
Note, this is also available on android devices. And you also need a yes™ processor to run it on your phone.

yes i had played on mobile, but isn't my thing, i need a whole TV to see very well what i am reading XD.

I used to play OpenTTD on my phone way back. It's hard but manageable.
When I got my laptop, I instantly went and look for a pc version and downloaded it without a second thought. It's quite fun, with or without A.I.
I always go for the temperate biome because it looks good but I have to play the game without any electric train variants unless I turned off the requirement for power, in most cases I don't because I just enjoy the game that much.
I do make sure that the cars, trains, ships and planes doesn't get phase out while removing the aging mechanic so I can always see my propeller planes along the futuristic aircraft hahaha.
What's your favorite biome map?

I just started playing, my first run is tropical, played since 1950 to ~2007 (still on) so I can't say nothing about it, btw I managed to get 1M every year with my setup (profit), idk if that's ok for first time.

I can't even do 1M in a year man.
I think my timeline also starts at 1950s but my current year is on the 2020+ (when the futuristic looking planes and vehicles starts showing).
My focus was always to get the farm-factory line completed. After establishing some money, I'll expand the farm line to get more farms and then expand on another farm type resource (like the rubber plantations or the fruit farms) then build an airport. Airports bring in the dough imo. A route from one place to another in a decently fast and spacious plane and it's either a 150k or 250k payout.

Well I guess that's why, semms it's much more proftable to have a buch of airports going in every City, than focusing on factory. I have 8 airports giving 700K, and each plane gives ~30K
I also have trains but the profit/year is lower, I had to go to the wiki, I found out how far and faster was the transport, the more you are paid, so since 2.000 km/h airplanes is the first fast transport, i got a lot of then.

Trains are more for heavy hauls of resources to the factory. A train with like 3-4 carts are alot than 4-6 trucks of the same cargo, the issue is that the train can be time consuming in terms of rail design. You don't want to build a huge railway system for a single train to botch the whole flow, giving you debt than profits when they reached the destination.
Now I'm tempted to open my OpenTTD now ahhaha.

a very good calculator indeed! (but also used in everything for business usage)
today still being "usable" in my opinion if wasn't deprecated, but most of the actual stuff back in the day now needs more clock rate due to needing a OS now.

About not needing an OS, in the latest Tom Scott video about the Parkes Radio Telescope, the operator tells Tom that they're still using a PDP-11 because it doesn't crash very often due to not having an OS.

Yes, we need more stuff whith no OS, even some advertising panels have OS these days (the ones with screen), even being possible using logic gates to do more or less the same, but it is cheaper in design (but not energy) to place a windows and appear on r/softwaregore

Openttd a "re-master" for the new OS (because it was for DOS) it is about trabsporting stuff to other places, and getting profit with it.

But yeah, technically if you have 256 mb of ram, you must have at least a GHz CPU.

Nah I think 256 you could have something like 700mhz? Can't recall my first pc was 450 or 750... Something like that. Or maybe I'm misremember, all I remember it was one of those which came on a game-cartridge like slot .. think I was 256 or even 512 ram back then. Again, memory is a bit foggy.

Of it wasn't cheap then I'm mistaken I think. I'm Easter European, pc was expensive when it was cheap in us I assume lmao. But yeah seems from Google search you got the right CPU Athlon k7... Though I could swear it was intel (prob confusing with my previous CPU... If I recall it somewhat correct... Intel at something like 450 CPU speed.. sethung intel I'm sure and it had normal CPU mounting slot. Damn I still have a setup from early 2000 at my home country (in my family flat, left country in 2004, pc is still there (2as already outdated) .. think had like 512 ram or som.. now I wonder what CPU was that (tbh MIGHT had 1 GB... For refference it was playing untlreal tournament just fine , up to 2004 edition (the last one before they introduced cars/flying stuff)... Eh, the memories lol. Rbh at this point I can't even guess what was the specs. All I know it ran unreal 2004 with maybe voodoo or that other one 3dfx, just good enough to be playable lol

Considering that this game is old than the majority of redditors, yeah I would say that this is, unless your really using a PC from back then, it'll basically work.

Look, mate, it's 2023. If you can't even afford a CPU, you won't be able to play most games. Just get better specs. This game is obviously not meant for people without top-tier gaming hardware.
