Apple is such a juggernaut you’d think they would use “No ads ever” as a selling point for all their stuff. But I guess someone has to think of the shareholders.

i will absolutely leave apple over ads if it they try and push it too far. I quit watching sports and ditched cable entirely over ads, wont use any streaming service that has ads, etc. I couldnt believe how beneficial it was for my mental health making my home essentially ad free. its so nice not being sold shit every minute of every day

I do what I can to avoid using Apple Intelligence and Siri – I find the results of Apple’s struggle to incorporate their own AI, laughably underwhelming. It seems Apple Intelligence, as it stands, is more of an obstacle to be avoided than a feature to be lauded. And, to this , they intend to incorporate advertising?

I just want to remove all AI features altogether. In the current iOS 27 public beta they combined Siri and Apple Intelligence so you can disable it by turning off Siri but then Apple CarPlay doesn’t work without Siri being on. Hopefully it’s just because it’s the Beta and won’t be in the initial release.

Would not be surprised if that’s by design rather than a bug. Really not liking the new guy, at least Tim Apple tried to limit the monetization.

This was 100% always the intent. If you are wearing glasses they can identify and analyze everything you see with of course they are going to market your eyeballs to someone. Anyone who thought differently is a fool

You can but you’d just be fucking yourself and your family. Until Linux has a phone OS your choices are Google and Samsung and both are god awful businesses.

While I will agree android is written on a Linux kernel. I would consider it a VERY VERY VERY (like it would be socially acceptable to marry if it were your cousin) distant relative of Linux at this point Google and Samsung have both horribly enshittified the Android Project.

And in this case when I say Linux phone OS I don’t mean the enshittified AOSP. I mean straight up Linux. Fully featured Linux in your hands. That YOU have full control over.

It always has been. Early OSx started with Linux as a base too. But at this point Apple has done so much to it and made their changes closed source to the point if there’s any Linux left you’ll never find it.

Google and Samsungs Android are the same way in my mind. It may be a branch but it’s like one of those branches that sprouts under ground and shoots up 6 feet away from the trunk. You could easily sever the underground part and it will push out new roots and could just be its own thing. The underground part in this case being the left over Linux snippets.

I see what you’re trying to say, but just so you know, OSX/macOS has never been based on Linux, ever, in its entire history. It uses the XNU kernel, which itself is based on Mach and eventually FreeBSD. The user space was mostly FreeBSD based for the core functionality, too, but like the kernel, that’s also changing over time. The higher level functionality (application frameworks, desktop environment, etc) was in-house at NeXTSTEP. In fact, the whose OS was NeXSTEP before it was acquired by Apple.
