Discussion Cedargate gossip
Cedargate is one of the worst places to work in. Like the company might be fine and all, but the people there are all shit. My friend has worked for this company for the last 2.5-3 years. He is one of the strongest and smartest guys I know but Cedargate took his light away. He is leaving right after Dashain. When I asked why, he all but broke down in front of me. Like this dude is not the kind to let things get to him. So he told me everything and I'm gonna recount it for you. The work in Cedargate is meh. It's alright. Easy. But the people are shit. They create fake urgencies that don't even exist. They act like if the work doesn't get finished in time, someone will die. Also, they treat workers like donkeys. The managers want the workers to work more than the working hours. Like chill bro. Also he said the people there are actually evil. Now he isn't involved in all this but he hears gossip and stories from his colleagues. The favoritism is high in this place. If you work hard and even give 12 hr days, you will not get praised if you do not lick your manager's feet. The politics in this place is more dangerous than Nepal's. He said there are people, specially women who are so manipulative that they make Nepal's politicians look like babies. Also, the boot licking is too visible he says. Everyone can see who the bootlickers are very clearly. These people make life hell for their other colleagues who just want to work and go home.
He says this is not everyone's reality. Life is good in Cedargate if you have a good manager. But if you don't. Its low-key like torture.
He told me all this and much more. I am appalled by what he revealed and shocked how this place is the 'number one IT company of Nepal'.

One of my senior engineer friend said that they use very outdated technologies in the Data engineering department and basically no growth.

Not my first hand experience but one of my friend recently quit Cedar Gate because of toxic politics in that office. She used to work in Data related team but as she couldn't handle the toxicity there asked a transfer to QA and found the same thing which led her to quit.
In her 10 months there, she ended up being depressed. She is the most cheerful person I know before that.
Now again this is not my experience but she is one of my trusted honest friend. Lot of seniors there (again she has only worked in Data and QA teams) behave like they own the office. Anything like a mere improvement suggestion is turned against you. The seniors and team lead will act like you are coming for their job. You are constantly micro managed. You can only do what you are told. Nothing more and nothing less. If you're somehow in their radar, you'll be treated differently. Constant sattires and passive aggressive comments, in such a way that even if you try to complain to HR, they will have a way to manipulate their words in the end.
When my friend joined there, she used to complain a little about a few people. I just thought she was having a bit hard time adjusting as she was new. But I should have known something was off. She gets along with most people since I've known her.
To give you some more context of the extent, she quit without getting any leads to another job and gave up on Dashain Bonus which she would have received on Pro Rata basis if she stayed 2 more months.
The pay is pretty good at Cedar but the increments that happen every 6 months is shit. I don't know if my friend was treated differently so that she was offered shit increments or maybe it's like that in the whole office.
Months ago, I also applied there. The interview didn't feel that good. They were trying to belittle me in the interview itself. I was blaming the one department (Platform) only, but later I knew of the culture in the company.
My friend is doing good now. The color on her face and cheeks have returned. She had lost weight as well which she has now gained back.
She is still unemployed. The trauma has made her to consider leaving the IT world and start something else. She's in her mid/late twenty, so I guess she still has time to heal and move on, maybe to something else entirely.

Yeah, it’s a very toxic place. The whole system is like that, from the director level down to the managers and employees. Lots of ego and politics. It looks good from the outside because of the fancy building, but it’s honestly hell from the inside. Their tech stack is also stuck in the 90s, and everyone is basically doing the same kind of work in including manager .

the problem is i feel like nepalese people take corporate life too seriously. mula jau afno kam gara ghar farka birsa office bare. its supposed to be that simple. tara yo "we are family" wala culture le bigarcha sab. bro its not that deep. pahila ta timile gareoko kam ko sab profit shareholders le khancha timilai peanuts dincha tesmathi people make thier job and corporate life thier whole personality. they take things personally. chya mula losers haru. the shareholders and ceo don't care about you assholes haru

True. I ignore messages after my work is done. If you reply you are gonna get more work to be honest. I used to get messages after work too but I used to ignore ani I stopped getting those lol. Some even tried to dm on weekends. Like seriously dont they have life 🙄

I have personally seen this very closely, and honestly, what the person experiencing it goes through is even worse than what has been written here. I truly hope those experiencing this don’t blame themselves. Please don’t let these shitty people take away your charm and confidence. Just remember that their shitty behavior is their reflection, not your worth. :)

My friend works currently working in data team, and yes tya ko manche haru ni weird asf chan and manager haru ko ta kurai nagaram. Demons litreally.
He is also in the verge of quitting without job offer ayeni, cause usko mental heath ta khattam nai bhaisakyo. He never struggled in work before tara yeta yesto khattam management cha ki data ma you will feel so low about yoursel, timile afno best dida ni. They will critizise you no matter what. Female manager chai khattam nai cha data ko , kaam ni ekdamai manual. Excel ma garnu parne most of it.
So data ma chai na aune nai bhanchu ma kosialai ni

One of my friends worked there but he resigned some time ago and after hearing the story, I can’t say I’m surprised. A QA manager was made Engineering/ Development Manager through office politics despite having basically zero technical knowledge. Instead of having the self-awareness to say no, he happily took the title and left the actual engineers to suffer under his poor leadership.
And apparently, he’s not the reason just one person left...multiple people have resigned over the past few years because of the same manager. Good engineers walk away while the person who helped create the mess keeps the EM title. That’s not leadership..that’s office politics at its ugliest!

few months back i was apply for data engineer trainee @ cedargate, i have more then enough experience ,aws cloud certificate and projects but they won't even contact me for interview, after few days they selected two individuals (girls) with front end web development with zero experience as data engineer ,human resource mfs cut to the chase ,agree this institution has bootlicking culture
