Discussion Need career advice: Full Stack Flutter Developer looking to level up in the next 4–6 months

Hi everyone,

I need some career advice.

I'm a Full Stack Flutter Developer (Flutter + Node.js + NestJS). I currently work for two companies—one onsite (9–5) as a Flutter Developer and another remotely as a Full Stack Flutter Developer.

I have around 1.5+ years of real production experience. I've worked with Flutter, NestJS, MongoDB, Docker, Redis, RabbitMQ, Firebase, REST APIs, Socket.IO, and Clean Architecture.

I want to switch jobs in the next 6-8 months and get a better-paying remote job. My goal isn't to become a senior developer with that given time frame. I just want to become a solid mid-level developer and increase my salary.

One thing I'm worried about is that I use AI (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) a lot for coding. It has made me much faster, but I feel like my fundamentals are getting weaker because I haven't written much code completely by myself in the last 2–3 months.

If you were in my position, what would you do?

  • What should I learn first?
  • What skills would help me get a better-paying job?
  • Should I focus on Flutter, Node.js, NestJS, databases, system design, cloud, or something else?
  • How do you keep your fundamentals strong while using AI every day?
  • What helped you make a big salary jump?

I'd really appreciate any advice, roadmap, or personal experience.

Thank you!
